Next Project

I am going to order yarn for Kate's Anticipation this Friday, which happens to be payday! The pattern calls for Rowan Big Wool, but that would be rather expensive. So after searching Elann's site, I decided on the Schoeller Stahl Volare in loden and bisque.

Rebecca 26, Pattern 11

The cabley sweater is complete! I haven't worn it yet, but plan to this weekend. I knit the boat neck as originally written, not knowing what it would look like, but that it would probably be all wonky [thanks Silvia!]. I wanted to see how bad it was, I guess. And it was bad. The neck front was way too big and completely flopped around and looked weird. So I ripped it out. One of the reasons I made this sweater was because I loved the open neckline, so I didn't really want to alter it into a crewneck. What I ended up doing is just decreasing on every row instead of every other row as the directions indicate. I also stopped on row 50 instead of 55. It turned out great!

Cape Mod Pattern Correction

I got this email today and realized that there is a mistake in the Cape Mod pattern. I never caught it before when reading through the pattern in the book. The part that is incorrect is when at the end of the pattern, in the last paragraph before the Finishing section...

It reads:
At the same time, when there are 128 (132, 136) sts, ending after an inc row, switch again to the smaller needles. Add a double strand of yarn A, and cont incs, work 3 rnds, K2, P2 rib with MC and A tog.

The 128 stitch part is wrong. It should read with the same numbers as what the body ended on: 132 (136, 140).

Seams Next

Although I was in danger of running out of yarn again, I was able to finish the sweater sleeves Sunday night and block them too. They're still drying. Then I should be able to seam everything together and work on the boat neck. I may be able to wear it this weekend!

Still on Sleeves

I'm about halfway through the sweater sleeves now. I worked on them for several hours last night as I watched The Apprentice and ER. I hope to have them blocking by the weekend and the sweater ready to wear soon after. Unless I run into neckline problems.

A friend recently gave me all of these old school knitting needles that her friend's grandmother had owned. The circular needles all have a metal cable rather than nylon/plastic. I had never seen that before. They're pretty neat.

Oops!

For the month of December, I went over the data transfer allowance of my internet hosting service, so I had to delete some images that I had posted here. On Saturday night, I finished the front of the sweater and blocked both the back and the front. Now I have started on the sleeves. I've only got a few inches so far, but I hope to be finished with them sometime this weekend.

Gifts in the Mail

Yay! Look what Mariko sent me for our swap! A gorgeous set of eight funky dinner napkins, a super cool bag, plus an Action Hero engagement calendar. As you can see, the bag is made from the same fabric as some of the napkins and has the other fabric on the inside. Check out the cute label too. Mariko has some excellent seamstress skills! And the engagement book is cool. It has some funny tips in it, like how to perform the Jedi Mind Trick or Vulcan Nerve Pinch and a reminder to warm up before dirty dancing--crazy stuff like that.

Icy Cold

Since this big winter storm hit early Tuesday morning, I've had lots of time to knit! I'm stuck at home again and now working on the front of the cabley sweater. The back took a little over five skeins of yarn and I only ordered 11, so I got online and ordered four more skeins for the sleeves. I love an extended vacation!

Brrrrrrrr

I'm back at work, bracing myself for another snowstorm, hoping to leave work early today. While I was on vacation, I hardly did any internet surfing and have lots of blog reading to catch up on. I'm also just about done with the back of the cabley sweater. I was able to get back to the point where I was in the sweater before I frogged those 50 or so rows. Yay!

!@#$%&*

So I was happily working on row 83 on the cabley sweater when I looked at it to check the pattern and noticed that one of the cables was crossed in the front when it should have been crossed in the back. And that was on row 37. So, at first, I tried to just frog the six stitches that were affected, but that didn't work, because of the other cable patterns. I decided to rip out everything back to row 37. I'm on row 45 now. Maybe I'll get back to where I was by the time the weekend is over. If we get more snow, I'll have plenty of knitting time!
